Enjoy your minds while you have them because they are about to be blown. The first and last album by teen sensation Smoke’N’Mirrerz is simply a masterpiece. Ashes 2 Ashes is a compelling tribute to deceased frontman Carcin Uh-jin, who died of lung disease while recording the album. Some of Carcin’s lyrics are prophetic, as if he knew the end was near for him. “Angels fly around me when I say your name, But I don’t see you, which is totally lame.” If that lyric from “Heaven Tonight” doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, then you’re not human. Or maybe you’re just a human with broken tear ducts. Either way, this is the best album ever in the history of music. Your favorite band will sound like a gassy howler monkey scratching a chalkboard compared to this. It should be mentioned that the album only has three songs. We asked band member Dustin Phlemberlake why such a short track list. His response? “We recorded three songs, then our singer died. So we couldn’t record any more songs. Because dead people don’t sing good. Maybe not at all even.” If that doesn’t have you reaching for a tissue, we don’t know what will. Even though it’s mathematically impossible, we give Ashes 2 Ashes 5.625 (out of five) smoking butts. -BT
